The video above is a supercut for Season 2 of A Sense of Place (the full season trailer is coming soon). I had the chance to "premier" it this past weekend at the VRMA International[1. VRMA International, October 27-30, MGM Grand Las Vegas: http://www.vrma.org/page/international-conference] event in Las Vegas (two times!) and a number of people asked if they could see it online. So here ya go!
We presented the video first at the Speaker's Dinner (thanks to Fay and Gareth and Ale and Stephanie at Booking.com for arranging this) and then in front of a record 1800 people in the main attendence the following afternoon (shout out to Mike Copps and Mike Harrington for allowing the little guy on the big stage). After the supercut in both instances, I stepped up and shared the following words...
"If hospitality is the first step to dismantling the barriers of the world: and if vacation rentals represent the future of hospitality: then we have the opportunity to change the world...one guest at a time."
Inspired by Joan Chittister[2. "Hospitality means we take people into the space that is our lives and our minds and our hearts and our work and our efforts. Hospitality is the way we come out of ourselves. It is the first step towards dismantling the barriers of the world. Hospitality is the way we turn a prejudiced world around, one heart at a time." -- Joan Chittister] this sentiment is one I have been contemplating for quite some time now. The goal of this statement is to bring the very romantic and maybe-esoteric idea (changing the world) down to earth and into our laps (in the honest work that we do as hosts). My hope is that it reminds independent owners and managers -- the soul of this industry -- that we have a real opportunity to influence the world one guest at a time.
You could feel this enthusiasm and positivity in an Inner Circle roundtable or "hot seat" discussion that the we hosted on the last day of the event.
The full recording of this event is available in the Inner Circle Training Section.
The stars are aligned, my friends.
All the resources we need are at our fingertips.
But the journey starts with you.
Thanks to my team (you know who you are) for helping me pull of things that I could never do on my own and for challenging me to think differently every day. Thanks to Karen, David, Karla, Jim, Mailie, Virag, Filipa, Jan, Jeff and Eric for allowing me to capture your vacation rental leadership on film and display it to the world this coming season. Thanks to Megan, Karen, Mark, Darik, Tammi, Gay, Jeff, CJ, Jeanne, and Chereen for representing the Inner Circle so boldly at the roundtable in Las Vegas. And thanks to all the vacation rental stakeholders...every single one of you...for refusing to let anyone tell you how it's done. Let's do this!
